Final Project Unit 9

I Introduction:

Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?
It is so important for us as health care professionals to develop these skills of psychological, spiritual, and physical health because we need to be able to teach others to live longer, healthier, and more full filled lives. We are viewed upon as being the healthiest individuals out there and we want to be able to live up to those standards. If we are the healthiest we can prove to others that it can be done, because we have done it and we can show them the way easier.
Myself as a health care professional I must learn to take the ultimate care of myself. I feel that this is coming more and more easier as I practice just some simple steps learned in this class. I feel that I need to learn to believe in myself and love myself more so that I matter to me. I feel my goal is to become more physically fit and more emotionally sound. I want to love my inner self as much as my appearance.

II Assessment:

How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?
Psychologically - I have to learn how to be more prepared and calm. I have learned not to get mad at the small things and realize there is nothing that I can do once things have happened except to move forward. I have also learned that other individuals have bad days to and not to take things so personally. I want to be able to live my life as stress free as possible. I have found myself talking and breathing situations out and staying calmer in difficult situations.
Spiritually – I have to learn to lean towards my higher power because this is fuel for my life. I feel that I rate the highest here in my spirituality because I do believe in my God and I do believe he watches over me and takes care of me. I do feel that I could read more about my God and teach about his teaching to others to stay on the top of spirituality.
Physically – Well this is where I fail significantly I must learn to take care of my body so that I can help others to the fullest. I tend to put myself on the back burner when it comes to my physical health. I will say that I have gotten a lot better and learning to eat healthier. The problem being is I make excuses not to exercise and use time as my crutch. I have learned that I must exercise my body for me to be in the best shape as a health care provider. I used the new year to make it mandatory that I work out at least 3 to 4 days a week for at least 30 minutes, not to lose weight but to be physically fit in my body.

III Goal development:
List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.
My goal for each of the domain is to learn how to utilize the skills provided in integrated health for my profession. I must work out three days a week, I must take 30 minutes a day to meditate and relax my body and mind, and then I must take every evening and pray to my God and thank him for all I have.

IV Practices for personal health:

What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.
Physical – I feel that the exercises I mentioned above are suffice for this domain, but I believe there are some other exercises we have learned that will help me accomplish my goal for this domain. I believe I will use visualization to help my see myself in the future once I have accomplished my healthy physical goal, and then I will also use journaling to help record my success.
Psychological – I believe here the exercises I will use will be from the Loving Kindness practices learning how to love others and myself at the same time. I believe that I will also learn how to meditate in my practices. I have found that meditation relaxes my body and mind so that I have more energy and feel more level headed.
Spiritually – Here I will also use the Loving kindness practices along with the Subtle mind practices. I feel that this will take a lot more practices in learning the steps of these practices but they will help me reach my level of consciousness of well-being that I feel I need to be at my ideal health.

V Commitment:

How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?
I believe that my commitment will take a lot of strong mind meditation and learning how to stick to something is really hard in my eyes. I have to learn how to stay positive. I believe journaling will help me the most. Journaling seems to help me stay on target and helps me to actually see what it is I am doing and have accomplished. There are also websites out there to use for encouragement. I also feel that letting others know that I have a goal in mind and this is what I am trying to will help others to give me the time I need. I find it important that I be the best of my ability to one be the healthiest for myself, my family, and for those that I will be serving.

  1. Hi Danna,

    I enjoyed reading your post.

I agree that as health care professionals we must lead by example. Only then that our clients will have confidence in our ability to guide them through the process of attaining integral health, healing, and happiness.

It is for this reason that I am attending Kaplan University to educate myself and become a skillful health care professional.
