"Meeting Asciepius"

I would first like to mention that my New Year's resolution is to start taking care of Me, Myself, and I because I never have done this before. This class has really made me aware of my life in my eyes and not anyone else. With this meditation practice I found it difficult as always to stay focused on the task at hand with the image. But I think this would be typical with anyone doing it for the first time, because this type of meditation takes lots and lots of practice.

With the saying "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” this means to me that if you have not mastered the task at hand, you have no business trying to teach and individual how to do something. Now this means what you are trying to teach an individual could be learned to together if needed. I believe that this important in health and wellness because if we are not healthy mentally and physcially how can we help others be that way as well. And in our line of work we need to be able to give all individuals the best possible teachings we can to better their well-beings.

  1. I agree with your "New Years" resolution. We often overlook ourselves when we are helping and taking care of others. I am guilty of this myself, that is why I made the effort to change all that in my life. I am happier and at peace in my soul. I now longer seek the validation of others. However, I do listen to others opinons but all final discisions are mine. Meditation have helped me take control of my life's circumstances with positive outcomes.

There are other contemplative practices that I will incorporate with my meditation such as "Forgiveness," "Gratefulness," and "Loving-kindness." I still have some areas of my personal life that needs immediate attention and improvement.

  2. I agree that to be the best of service to others we must first be of service to ourselves. We think that we are giving to others when we sacrifice our own needs. We are mistaken. Sacrifice and giving must be given to ourselves first so that we can truly be of service to others. How can we save someone else from drowning if we never learned to swim?

  3. Great resolution Dana. I hope that you will continue to reap the benefits throughout the year and years to come as well. I like the way you put that if you have not done the work yourself you have no business teaching someone else. I think you are correct. It is hard to be of service if you don't understand what that service truly entails.

Best wishes and Happy New Year.
